We offer a distance sharpening service for a wide range of items, including knives, scissors, clippers, and tools.
Knives require specific handling due to postal regulations, but we make the process simple and safe.
Note we are not permitted to sharpen items for anyone under 18, or any item classed as a weapon under the Offensive Weapons Act 2019.
Closed penknives present no problems when correctly packed.
Open-bladed knives (such as kitchen knives) are usually restricted by most carriers, they will likely refuse them.
However, The Post Office will accept them if properly packaged to prevent any risk to staff.
The Post Office guidance states:
“Sharp objects. (Excludes: (i) knives prohibited under UK law – see Weapons – and (ii) Bladed items) ‘Not kitchen knives or legal penknives’.”**
All sharp edges must be wrapped to prevent pentration of the package - the tip of the knife. needs to be safe enough not to penetrate the package
Please wrap each item individually using bubble wrap, cling film, or card. Use a padded envelope or box to protect them in transit.

Packing Advice for Specific Items
These common items don’t require specialist packing, but still need care:
Wood chisels – Protect the sharp edge with card or use a tool roll.
Woodturning tools – Wrap the tip with extra card.
Chipper blades – Wrap in card and tape tightly
Scissors (hair, grooming, tailoring, Kevlar) – Protect tips with folded card.
Dagging shears – Tape closed.
Garden tools – Chains, secateurs etc. — tape closed, then pad
Clippers (horse, cattle etc.) – Bubble wrap or box is fine.
